Glasgow or Edinburgh Airport from Stirling – Which Is Better?

Stirling Airport Transfers: Stirling is in an unusual position: two international airports, both under an hour away, in opposite directions. Edinburgh is east along the M9. Glasgow is south-west via the M80. Most people simply book the airport their flight leaves from. But if you’re comparing flights, or trying to budget for the taxi, it helps to know how the two journeys differ.

The short answer: from most of Stirling, a taxi to Glasgow Airport usually costs a little more than one to Edinburgh Airport. The Glasgow run is around six miles longer, and it crosses Glasgow city centre on the M8, where rush-hour delays are common. The gap is usually modest, though. Your pickup address, the time of day and the vehicle you need can make just as much difference.

The Edinburgh run is the simpler of the two. You head out on the M9 past Falkirk and Linlithgow and turn off near Newbridge for the airport. It’s a predictable road, which helps when you’re working back from a check-in time.

The Glasgow run takes the M80 past Cumbernauld, then joins the M8 through the city to reach the airport near Paisley. Outside rush hour it flows well. At weekday peak times the city-centre stretch can add a noticeable chunk of time. That matters if you’re cutting it fine.

Which Route Usually Costs More?

In September 2026 we checked fares published by airport-transfer operators covering Stirling. Where a company listed both routes, Glasgow Airport was priced higher every time, usually by around £7–£10 for a standard car. Prices for the same journey varied a lot between companies, though. Advertised fares for the Edinburgh run alone ranged from around £60 to over £100. In practice, which company you book, and what’s included, can matter more than which airport you fly from.

If you’re looking for the cheapest option, compare like with like:

  • Is the fare fixed, or could traffic push it up?
  • Is it for a car that actually fits your luggage?
  • Does it include the airport drop-off or pick-up charge?

That last one catches people out. Edinburgh Airport raised its terminal drop-off charge to £8.50 for up to 10 minutes in May 2026. Glasgow charges £7 for the first 15 minutes, then £1 a minute. Ask whether it’s in your quote, so the price you compare is the price you pay.

How 5 Star Taxis prices it: our transfers to Glasgow Airport and Edinburgh Airport are fixed fares, agreed before you travel. A slow M8 or a queue at the airport doesn’t change what you pay. We don’t publish one price for every journey, because the fare depends on where you’re picked up and what vehicle you need. Instead, you can get a fare estimate in our app or ask for an exact quote on 01786 388 448.

What Can Change Your Airport Taxi Price?

  • Where you’re collected. A pickup in Dunblane or Bridge of Allan adds a few miles compared with Bannockburn, which sits right by the motorway.
  • Vehicle and luggage. Our 4-seater takes two large and two small cases. Our estate takes three large and two small. Booking the wrong car the night before a holiday is a stress nobody needs.
  • Number of passengers. A bigger group needs our 6-seater MPV. That keeps everyone and the cases in one vehicle rather than split across two.
  • Single or return. You can book both legs at once, so your collection is sorted before you fly.
  • Notice. We take short-notice bookings where we can. For early flights, booking ahead is the only way to be certain.

Stirling Airport Transfers and Surrounding Areas

We collect from homes, hotels and student accommodation across Stirling and the surrounding area.

  • City centre, Riverside, Raploch, Cambusbarron: quick access to the M9 for Edinburgh or the M80 for Glasgow.
  • Bridge of Allan, Causewayhead and Dunblane: allow a few extra minutes on early departures.
  • University of Stirling (Airthrey campus): end of term means a lot of luggage. Tell us how many cases you have so we send a car with room for them.
  • Bannockburn and Cambuskenneth: handy for the motorway junctions south and east of the city.

Why Pre-Book Your Airport Taxi?

Picture a 6:30am flight from Edinburgh with a pickup in Dunblane. You’re probably leaving home before 4am, a time when you don’t want to be hoping a taxi is free. When you pre-book with 5 Star Taxis:

  • A driver and vehicle are confirmed in advance.
  • You can track your car live in our app as the pickup time approaches.
  • Our airport transfers run at any hour, so the early start isn’t a problem.

Coming home works the same way. Say you’re a family landing at Glasgow late in the evening with four cases. Give us your flight number when you book and we track your flight, so if you land late your pickup moves to your actual arrival time. An estate car means everything fits first time.

For work trips, a 5 Star Taxis business account puts fares on one company invoice instead of expense claims. You can pay by cash, card or contactless.
